Training Secret 14- "Post Surgery Exercise"

The best way to train after an operation is to perform static action resistive movements, better known as isometrics. I know because on April 26, 2004, I had a long overdue abdominal hernia repaired. After searching my resources and speaking with many trainers, they all came to the same conclusion…isometrics and walking. Isometrics became popular in the United States thanks to new research by German scientists. What was discovered is that by practicing isometrics, you experience tremendous gains in strength, far more than from dynamic activities. Those who have been sedentary for a while, those in post surgical rehabilitation or those who want to engage in an environment not traditionally designed for fitness should consider isometrics. By practicing isometrics, you can facilitate recovery and reduce strength loss and muscle atrophy. For an effective fat loss modality, walking is an excellent way while you are still recovering from your surgery. There are 2 prime times to perform aerobic exercise to maximize your results. The first method is to walk first thing in the morning on an empty stomach before your breakfast. Of course, drink 16-24 oz of water before you start. You can burn up to 300% more fat when you walk first thing in the morning before your first meal because your body does not have any glycogen (stored carbohydrates and sugars) in your system to burn. What happens is, your body will go directly into the fat stores in order to get the energy required to complete the aerobic session. The second best time to perform aerobic exercise is immediately after your resistance training session. The reason for this is it takes about 20 minutes from the time you begin your workout session to start burning fat. That is how much glycogen stores you have as energy. The resistance session completed first takes care of those glycogen stores and when you begin your aerobic fat burning session, you are entering and using up the fat stores for energy. |
